Medical MCQs are not testing what you know — they are testing how well you reason. Understanding this distinction changes everything about how you prepare.
Step 1: Read the Last Line First
Always read the question stem last line first. This tells you what they are asking, so you can read the vignette with purpose.
Step 2: Form Your Answer Before Looking at Options
Before reading the options, form your own answer. This prevents you from being seduced by plausible-sounding wrong answers.
Step 3: Eliminate Obvious Distractors
Usually two options can be immediately eliminated. Focus your energy on the remaining two or three.
